Minutes for 3/14 meeting and Important Info

ASAP:

Don't forget that elections are comming up and we are still looking for officers. Anyone who is interested, please let me know at your earliest convenience.

3/22 - Spring Job Fair:

The spring job fair will take place on Wednesday from 10:30 am to 2:00 pm in the Web Center. For more info, visit the cmc website.

3/23 - SCHOOL MENTORING PROGRAM:

We will begin working with Tallwood High School. We will help out from 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm, tutoring for now. Next week Alvaro, Leo, Segio, and I will be going out there; however, I need someone that can help Leo tutor C++ (as we already have two kids who need the help). We will go out there Every Thursday for the remainder of the semester.

3/24 - Social:

At our last meeting, we decided to go to Joe Crab at Waterside (right off 264 on Waterside Dr.) for dinner. We will meet there at 7:30 pm. After dinner, we can decide where to go dancing. Everyone is welcomed, including family and friends. If you have any questions, please cotact me on my cell at 757-434-6103.

3/28 - Guest Speaker:

Guillermo Gonzales, who works at NASA Langley, will be speaking at our next general body meeting. Please try to attend. I have one more reason why you should attend, but we will leave it a surprise...

4/8 - Sub-Region Retreat:

We will be hosting SHPE Sub-Region Retreat. We are expecting about 20 students from the other chapters in our region. I will let you know more details (when it will start and end, and in what room it will take place) at our next meeting.

1/31 - SHPE General Meeting at 12:30 in Kauffman 215. We will be holding meetings every
other Tuesday for the rest of the semester, same time, same room.

2/16 - Diversity Career Expo at the Ted from 2 - 7 pm. For more info www.odu.edu/cmc

2/16 - SHPE Social (Tentative)
First Social of the Semester: Dinner, then Tropicana. Everyone is invited.

2/17 - 2/18 - Engineering Open House (volunteers needed)
2/17 - Lab tours and demonstrations in Kauf 9:oo am to 12:00 pm
2/18 - Student design contest and informative activities

3/10 - 3/12 - RLC (SHPE Regional Leadership Conference) at University of New Haven in
Cunnecticut
2/17 - Early Registration $50/person
2/24 - Late Registration $75/person

3/22 - Spring Job Fair
10:30 am - 2:00 pm. North Mall and North Cafe of Webb Center

Important Deadlines:

2/1 - Deadline to Register for the FE.
Applications available at the Dean's Office. $135.00 Total cost.

6/15 - Deadline to apply for AHETEMS (scholarship).

Minutes for meeting on 1/17/06

Minutes for SHPE meeting Tuesday, January 17, 2006:

1. Meeting tomorrow Wed, Jan 18 in Webb in front of Starbucks at 6:00 pm to create a poster for
Organizations Fair

2. Thur, Jan 19 is the Student Organizations Fair in Webb from 11:30 to 2:00pm. Come on by our
table to show your support and to help out if you are able to.

3. There will be an Engineering Open House on Febuary 17.

4. A Leadership lab will be held in March in Conneticut, the registration fee is $50.

This just in!

Howdy all,

The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers - Old Dominion University -, received an Honorable Mention for their participation at CANstruction 2005 with the canstructure named: Chin"CAN"itza. As you all know, the team was conformed by Veronica, Janella, Carol, Domingo (team captain), Alvaro, and Cristian. Remember to check tomorrow's newspaper for more news.

CANstruction


Howdy all,

Needless to say we had a great time! The masterpiece took a little under three hours to be complete. Domingo almost had a heart attack when the team was placing the top part. You can see Cristian's face and the cans tumbling down.

Congrats to Janella, Veronica, Carol, Domingo, Cristian, and Alvaro for a job well done
